About the Project
This photography project aims to delve into the complexities and beauty of ageing, capturing the essence of the human experience as it evolves over time. Through this project, I hope to shed light on the diverse perspectives, emotions, and challenges that come with ageing, while also highlighting the grace, wisdom, and resilience that come with it.
A Self-Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by Anshul Roy
About the Project
The series ‘A Self-Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man’ explores identity and how we construct it by analyzing our bodies. Here, microscopic and macroscopic self-portraits have been juxtaposed to accentuate the contrast between these diverse kinds of self-representation. Although the underlying technical process is radically distinct, my artistic approach is the same, i.e., - externalizing and documenting the presence of my body. I am also interested in the dichotomies present, like - microscopic vs macroscopic, abstraction vs representation, and concrete & physical vs the ephemeral & intangible presence of my body. Looking inside and outside is a way to ask the existential question - “Who Am I?”
Textures of Belonging by Mouli Paul
About the Project
Upon returning home after a year of studying in England, I became curious to explore and document my hometown - the intimacies, the mystique in the mundane, the people, and the textures that defined the place for what it is. Strongly drawing on the notions of home and belonging, my search was about the idea of home. Coming back, I realized I was born right here, in this sleepy little town of Bhadreswar in West Bengal, away from the highly pretentious city life.
4. Love, Hope and Prayers by Nachiket Sharma
About the Project
Love, Hope, and Prayers is an ongoing story about my grandmother. Suffering from a brain stroke while slowly slipping into dementia, she is losing her touch with reality and survives on the periphery of her memories. My parents, in a bid to refresh her memory, spend time showing her old photographs and having conversations with her. She tries hard to remember but her memories are fading at the borders of her mind. The family stands beside her to help her find inner peace and comfort with love, hopes, and prayers, hoping that things will change one day.
Check out the submissions for January.
